Fierce’s Ten Favorite Beauty-Full Things

Being home with the baby I watch a lot of the OWN network (can we say Dr. Phil!) and her  special last weekend  on her favorite things inspired this post.  Even an admitted product junkie has her share of favorite things, those beauty items that get the prime real estate on my sink.  They come with me on my road trips and, most recently, my stay at the hospital when I had my daughter.  Though it was a little hard, I was able to narrow them down to my ten most favorite things.

Curling Souflee from SheaMoisture

All of Shea Moisture’s Hair Products

Out of all the hair products I’ve used since I started rocking my curls, I come back to my Shea Moisture goodies time and time again.  They’ve become the baseline of what I compare  newer products too and I have yet to find any that are better for my hair than them (The Deep Treatment Masque was the only exception!)

Buxom Lash Mascara

Scooping this up on a Black Friday sale at Sephora, I didn’t realize just how much I would love this mascara.  It gives me the same bold and voluminous lashes as this one from Estee Lauder (and it’s  a little cheaper too!).  When I going for a super glam look, this is my go-to!

Bliss Spa Mask

BlissSpa Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask*

While the facial was super nice and cleared my skin, I enjoy this energizing mask a lot better!  The soothing foaming action is a nice ending to a relaxing shower and does wonders for brightening up my tired skin.

SheerCover Concealer*

I never heard of this brand until it came in an Influenster VoxBox I received awhile back and I really wish I knew about them sooner!  This is still the only concealer that works best at hiding my dark circles and plays nice with my foundations.

Mary Kay’s Sweet Raisin Lip Gloss

A staple in my purse, this shimmery neutral gloss gives my lips the pick me up it needs when on the go.  I don’t even need to have any makeup on – just a swipe of this and I feel put together!

TooFaced Natural Eye Collection

This palette is one of the best splurges I’ve made on makeup. I can’t go a week without using at least two of the neutral shades in this palette.  My two favorites?  Heaven, which works as a soft, brightening shade, and Push Up, a sparkly brown that gives my eyes the right amount of shimmer.

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration moisturizing conditioner

Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner

After hearing rave reviews about this conditoner, I bought a bottle a few months ago and this stuff is ah-mazing!  It’s much thicker than the one from Aussie that I’ve  been using religiously and leaves my curls so soft and manageable!  It’s makes detangling my hair in the shower a breeze and gives my hair the moisture it really needs.  At this point in my life, I don’t see myself using anything else!

CoverGirl Press Powder

This powder has been in my collection for over two years and when I need something to give my T-zone the matte look it needs, I turn to this.  The oil control works wonders without leaving my skin looking dull and ashy.

Avon Cream Blush

I’m not a big blush person so when I find something that works, I stick with it!  This blush gives my cheeks the right color it needs, brightening up my complexion and not drying my skin out.  It’s also really easy to use – just roll it on and blend it in with your fingers, which is perfect for busy women like me!

Murad Skin Defense*

Speaking of busy, when my day doesn’t leave room for makeup, I use this moisturizer from Murad to keep my skin hydrated and protected.  The SPF protection is essential, even in the winter time and it doesn’t leave my skin looking shiny or greasy.

How to Streamline Your Beauty Routine

I tell you, life as a new mom is rewarding, tiring, and incredibly busy!  The days of being able to spend hours in front of the mirror doing my hair and makeup every day are long gone (and I don’t see them coming back any time soon!)  So your girl has to streamline. That goes for anyone who is a new mom, has a super demanding job, or otherwise doesn’t have much time on their hands but wants to look her best.  Though I’m on leave from the day job and spending most of this time right now at home with the baby, I still want to look like someone so I had to figure out a way to do that with the demands of a newborn.  Here are three tips I came up with:

Simplify your skincare regimen:  As an admitted product junkie I know how hard it is to not want to buy (and use) a ton of skincare products.  However, since I came home with the baby, I really had to sift through my stash and find those two products that do the job of getting my face clean and moisturized.  Honestly, you really need a good cleanser and moisturizer to use  on a daily basis, taking you just a few minutes to keep your skin looking good! I use the Deep Action Cleansing Cream from Clean and Clear and Oil Free Moisturizer from Neutrogena.

Mom Hair

My Go-To Hair Style these days

Focus on what makes you feel fabulous:  For me it’s my hair!  I’m sitting in the house most of the day and I still take time out every morning to do my hair.  Even when I was in the hospital, I made sure my hair products came with me. When it’s done, I feel so much better, even if I don’t have on a stitch of makeup (which you ladies know I’m nuts about!).  If you can’t walk out the house without lipstick or your mani has to be on point, spend the time that you have on that.  When you feel your best, it makes your day feel less hectic.

Squeeze in at least one beauty indulgence when you can.  Plan a spa day once a month.  Take a relaxing bath every Friday night.  Hit up the nail salon for a pedicure every two weeks.  Whatever beauty splurge you love, pencil in time to take advantage of it.  With all the stress and craziness going on in your life, you need that time to chill out and recharge.  A hot shower and monthly trip to the salon to get my eyebrows done are my definition of me time at this point in my life and I wouldn’t trade those for the world! :)

Beauty Blast: The Prenatal Massage at the Eau Spa

Ritz Carlton Eau Spa

As promised, I wanted to give you the details on the prenatal massage I received before my awesome Mermaid Treatment.  This momma to be was in desperate need of a massage!  Between the back pain, hip aches, and leg spasms I felt like my body was falling apart!  And without being able to pop an Advil or even use a heating pad (per the doc) a massage was just the thing I needed.

As with my other trips to the Eau Spa, I got to go into one of their super soothing treatment rooms.  There you can select what type of mood and music you want while you get pampered so I went with Pause.  The lavender lighting and soft music and nature sounds was just what I needed to help alleviate all the stress and anxiety I’ve been feeling lately.  Instead of the normal massage table that I’m used to, this one has the coolest and comfiest body pillow I have ever laid on.  Let me tell you, my saving grace this past 7 months has been the body pillow I bought from Target and this one was ah-mazing!  It gives me fluffiness and comfort from my ankles, up and around my back and neck, all the way down my belly and opposite leg.  I seriously asked my therapist if I could take this home with me!

After taking in a few whiffs of the lavender massage oil, my massage therapist went to work as I laid on my side like a preggo girl should.  She concentrated on my back and shoulder blades which have been giving me the most trouble, being gentle but firm as she worked out the knots and strained muscles.  After she was done with each section, she would wipe it down with a nice, hot towel.

Can I just pause and say how awesome hot towels are?

Okay, anyway during the 90 minute massage I had everything worked out from the top of my neck to the soles of my feet.  The only time I was a bit uncomfortable was when I had to lay on a back for a moment to get my neck and shoulders massaged.  Other than that, the time went by too fast!  I could’ve taken a wonderful nap on that table.  I felt like I had my body back, my limbs the most limber and relaxed than it had been since I’ve been pregnant.  I was able to move around much more easily, making my trip down the beach a lot easier to make.

The Mermaid Treatment at the Eau Spa Palm Beach

Body ScrubLast weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to be invited back to the Eau Spa at the Ritz Carlton Palm Beach to check out one of their newest summer beauty offerings.  The Mermaid Treatment is a special pampering session for one of the most used (and neglected) part of bodies – our feet!  I know this girl’s feet has been putting in a lot of work these past few months and if you’re like me, a good foot rub can instantly put  you in relaxation mode.

So after my pre-natal massage (which I’ll fill you in another post! Promise!), I waited for my therapist Nancy to come and get me from the lounge.  I normally like to hang out in the Self Centered Garden (remember those awesome water swings?) but heat and a preggo lady do not mix! LOL.  When she came in, she had the speciality spa drink in hand – Cranberry juice and champagne (of course no champagne for me!) and I followed her to the Scrub Bar.  Here, anyone can mix up their own custom body scrub to take home or use for any of the spa treatments.  This place always smells so yummy with ingredients like citrus, vanilla, and eucalyptus to choose from.  For the Mermaid Treatment, you can play mixologist and put together your custom scrub to be used on your feet.  I went with one of the pre-selected mix “Perfect” which is a blend of Vanilla, Sugar, and Ginger.  This combo not only smelled really good but it had great exfoliating properties and would help increase the circulation in my swollen, ankle-less feet.

With my custom scrub ready to go, I’m thinking we’re going into one of those awesome treatment rooms.

Oh no.  They take the term Mermaid very seriously.

We were going seaside!

Spa

Nancy and I head out to the hotel’s private beach where a chair, foot stood, a tub of ice where champagne would be waiting if I could have some all under an umbrella.  The day was perfect for this, the wonderful sea breeze downplaying the heat outside.  While I got comfy with my juice drink in my champagne glass, Nancy went out to the sea to gather water that was only a few feet away.   Then the treatment began, Nancy massaging in the scrub into my feet and calves.  Then they were rinsed off using the sea water, which she explained to me has restorative properties on all it’s own. Not only does it feel nice on your skin, it works wonders in helping reduce the any swelling you may have (and this girl has some major swelling action going on!).  Afterwards, she massaged in a sweet and refreshing body butter, giving my feet a light yet effective massage.  Because my swelling is due to fluid retention during pregnancy, she worked on getting that circulation going again.  And let me tell you, I saw the veins in my feet for the first time in months! (Trust me, for pregnant ladies, this is super exciting!) My feet felt amazing and the fact that I was pampered on the beach was extra icing on the cake. For extra brownie points – you get take home a tin of your scrub, the body butter, and a spray mist in the cutest little bag.   I love that!

Gift Bag

Those 45 minutes went by way too fast and as a result, my feet looked the most normal and felt the softest they have ever felt since my pre-preggo days.  I felt so relaxed and pampered, I didn’t want to go home – and the great thing is, you don’t have to!  You are more than welcome to keep sipping your champagne and lounge out at the beach for the rest of your stay and as always, access to the spa’s amenities.

I had such a fabulous time and this was a truly unique spa experience for me!

When was your last trip to the spa?  What kind of treatment did you get?

Beauty Blast: ProActiv Deep Cleansing Brush

ProActiv Deep Cleansing Brush

My skin has been acting crazy this year and since my normal products are off the table, I have to look to safer alternatives to treat my skin on the three days a week it wants to break out.  So this review came at a perfect time!  For the past few weeks I had the opportunity to review the Deep Cleansing Brush from ProActiv.  This handy tool sweeps away the dull surface layers of skin, getting into those pores to get rid of the dirt, grime, makeup, and sweat that accumulates everyday.  All you need is two AA batteries (that aren’t included), your favorite cleanser and your good to go!

I’ve been using this brush with my Clean and Clear cleanser and I have to say that it has taken my cleansing routing to another level! Using it is really easy – just apply your cleanser, click the switch, and let it go to work as you move the brush in an upward motion.  The soft bristles really get in there, working away at my trouble spots without being too aggressive on my sensitive skin.  The vibration of the brush is gentle, like a good massage and when I rinse the cleanser away, my skin feels super clean.  Does it totally zap away my acne?  Of course not (can’t expect miracles!) but it does keep them under control.  It’s also a great little treat at the end of my morning shower!

Have you used the Deep Cleansing Brush?  What did you think?  If you haven’t, would you give it a try?
