Fierce OOTD: Rocking Two Trends At Once

Spring Trends

I have to admit, I’ve been a bit uninspired lately when it comes to my wardrobe.    I guess I’m still getting used to the drastic lifestyle change I’ve been going through.  I went from the 9 to 5 married lady office job to a stay-at-home freelancing mom.  All of my go-to outfits just don’t fit my life right now, my black trousers collecting some serious dust.  Anything that has to be dry cleaned is out of the question and I even had to cut back on my jewelry ware (the princess has way too much fun with them at my expense!)  Needless to say my personal style is going through some major changes and I’m still trying to figure in the fashion I love while being practical at the same time.

So in the meantime,  I’m left to jazzing up my casual wear. You can’t go wrong with layering, which puts my bright colored tanks to good use.  This hot pink one I scored at the Ecko Outlet was perfect, the racerback more appropriate for working out then for a day out.  I pulled this oversized shirt I hadn’t worn in awhile and when I threw it on I got the idea to tie it.  Don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before!  it does a great job hiding this mommy belly.  I also didn’t realize I was wearing two the latest trends at the same time – Neon and black and white.  Double score!

As for accessories, I also wanted to wear some oldies I hadn’t worn in awhile.  The cross necklace gave me the little edge this mom needed while the stretchy bracelets and earrings plaid off the pink for some more pops of color.  The shoes – yeah the heels stayed home on this one!  Besides, I wanted to show my Reeboks some love!

Have you ever had to do a major wardrobe overhaul due to a life change?  How did you deal with it?

Fierce OOTD: Showing off a Shoulder

One Shoulder Dress

I wore this little number for my wedding anniversary lunch with my husband and daughter last week.  I wanted to wear something fun and a little sexy especially since he sees me in nothing but sweats and t-shirts everyday!  I also didn’t want to get too dressy because we headed out to Buffalo Wild Wings, one of our favorite places to eat.  The last time we ate there was on our honeymoon in Orlando and we fell in love with their wings.  We are big wing afficionados and this place is high on the list.  They have a ton of flavors to choose from ranging from sweet and mild to burn your mouth off hot.  My goal in life is to try them all!

Print Dress

{One sleeved dress:  Flea Market; Black Flats: Target}

I bought this dress a few weeks ago and in the unlikeliest of places.  I was at the Swap Shop down in Ft. Lauderdale which is a huge flea market.  They sell everything from car parts and appliances to perfume and jewelry.  It’s one of those places where if you can’t find it there, they just don’t make it.  I was especially looking for some inexpensive sun dresses to wear.  The weather is getting hot and my little girl is getting more mobile so I wanted to get something cool and comfortable that I wouldn’t mind getting dirty.  After only finding one that met my criteria I was heading out and this dress caught my eye.  I like the fact it was off the shoulder but still had a little strap action going on.  The dress is in my favorite color and the print is super interesting.  Plus it was only $12!  Can’t go wrong with that!

Blue Dress

{Silver Hoop Earrings: Claire’s; Beaded Cuff: Old}

After wearing it to the lunch, I found that no matter how it dressed it down with the flats and jewelry it’s not a daytime dress.  The length is super decieving.  It’s fine as long as I’m standing but when sitting down or worse, bending over, I had to be super careful!  And toting the baby around, yeah not made for that.  It’s more of a date night dress, pairing it with my sparkly Maddens and some killer jewelry.  So note to self:  this goes in the Night Out section of my closet.

Have you gone flea market shopping lately?  What did you bring home?

Fierce Fashion: Bring on the Wedding Dresses!

Plus Size Wedding Dress

My Dad walking me down the aisle

One of the first things I did when I got engaged was look for a wedding dress.  At first it was so much fun but then it became overwhelming.  How can you possible choose from an endless variety of beautiful dresses?  The only thing I knew for sure was that my dress had to be from Alfred Angelo.  My prom dress was from there and I loved it!  So when it was time to go shopping it was the first store I went to and I already had about three dresses in mind to try on.  I was so excited….until I tried them on.  They looked horrible on me!  I was so disappointed and ready to go home.  But, the lady that was helping me one day pulled a dress out and told me to put it on.  It was nothing that I had in mind but I did anyway and let me tell you.  I walked out, went to the mirror, and practically shed a tear.  I found my dress!

Morale of the story:  Your dream dress could be the one you don’t even want to try on.  So keep your options open, shop with plenty of time, and try on everything!

Fierce OOTD: Printed Shorts, Being Normal, and Taking Charge of My Health

Have you ever had an outfit look so awesome in your head and then when you put it together and take photos for a blog post it looks less than awesome?   That’s what happened to me in with this outfit and I was seconds away from not posting this at all.  Then I remembered this post and decided this morning I needed to.  For one, it goes to show that fashion bloggers don’t nail every outfit, every time.  We don’t live in a perfect world with Pinterest closets and magazine worthy outfits.  What we want to create and what we put together sometimes doesn’t translate.  And you know what?  It’s okay to be normal and talk about it.

Another reason I did this post is more of a personal one.  I realized I need to take charge of my health.  It’s not that I hate my body.  After having my daughter and going through some scary health complications, I have a lot of respect for my body now.  That’s why I need to take better care of it.  It’s been six months and I have to make more of an effort to get rid of this baby weight that’s been hanging around.  Working and being at home can be a great thing when it comes to being healthy or it can totally sabotage it.  Stress and lack of sleep has been sending me to drive-thrus instead of my fridge so yesterday I made the decision to get it together!  I’m not doing anything drastic, cutting down on white carbs, incorporating more fruits and veggies¸ and not letting too many hours pass without eating something.  The exercise part I’m still trying to figure in because my days are still so unpredictable but I will make it happen.  I’ll be sure to keep you guys posted!

shorts

{White Tee:  Rainbow; Printed Shorts: Sears Outlet; Wedge Sandals: Old}

Alright, onto the outfit!  These printed shorts are from my latest shopping trip.  I was never one for printed shorts or pants but I was drawn to the summery orange color and flowly fabric.  The price was right too ($5!) so it was worth taking a chance. Man, they are comfy and the material is light, which is what you need in this Florida sun.  The shirt was a total fail.  A white tee would be perfect with the shorts so I’m on the hunt for a better fitting one.  To stay with the tropical vibe, I broke out my wedge sandals, so excited they still fit!  I felt like my old self.  :)

natural hair

{Gold and Black Earrings: Forever 21; Pendant Necklace: Beals Outlet; Beaded Cuff: Old}

With the fashion jewelry, I totally broke one of my rules – if you have on a big necklace, go for small earrings.  But my hair was craving big earrings and my neck needed some kind of pendant action going on so I gave in.  I like that it doesn’t look too much, staying with neutral browns and blacks.  I whipped out my beaded cuff again so my wrists aren’t left out!

Have you had an outfit you dreamed about not work out like you hoped?  What did you do?

Fierc OOTD: Feeling Trendy in Neon

Plus Size Dress

I’m really feeling the Spring trends this season and find myself wanting to give all of them a try!  One trend that I’m glad to see back is Neon.  It’s all about loud, bold colors and that’s right up my alley!  So when Easter came around this year I wanted to neon and had the perfect dress to do it in.

Ballet Flats

{Neon Green Dress:  New York and Co.; White Button Down: JCPenny; Black Belt: Rainbow; Ballet Flats: Target}

I spent the princess’s first Easter with my family down south.  I needed to wear something that not only was appropriate for church but would be comfortable to wear back at my Mom’s house for brunch and dinner.  This neon green dress was perfect!  I’ve had for a few years now, a piece I came across on the clearance rack.  At the time, I wasn’t too sure about the color because I really didn’t wear too much green, let alone lime green.  But it was seriously marked down to an astounding $7 and I couldn’t pass it up.  Since then I’ve worked it into the 30 x 30 challenge and a Bloggers Do it Better challenge.  I’ve grown to love it!

Plus Size Shirt

The only small downside to this sleeveless dress is the straps are a little ill fitted for me.  I can’t wear it alone because you can see the bra straps so I always have to lay it over with a cardigan or in this case, a button town top.  This shirt has gotten plenty of tranction in my wardrobe rotation!  I love the little puff sleeves and the ruffled flower on the side.  I wore it to work with black trousers or on the weekend with a pair of jeans.  To give the whole look some shape I used my trusty black belt to cinch the waist.  For shoes I wanted cute and comfort and these new ballet flats I bought a few weeks ago were perfect.

Earrings

{Big Gold Plated Earrings: Forever 21; Vintage Pearl Necklage: Birthday Gift; Brown Beaded Cuff: Old}

I can’t get enough of these gold earrings I purchased for New Years.  Their big, their patterned (did I say their big!)  I never was a big a gold person but there are times when the outfit calls for it, like this one!  I finished it up with the vintage pearl necklace ( I love wearing pearls to church!) and this beaded cuff that I haven’t worn in forever.

How did you spend your Easter weekend?
