Causing a Scandal with Rimmel London Cosmetics

Happy Monday!

Yeah, I’m dragging today too but what talking about makeup always puts me in a good mood (that and a good cup of coffee!)  Today, I’m having fun reviewing products from Rimmel London, most notably their ScandalEyes collection.  I know you’ve seen all the commercials and their products in the cosmetics aisle that you stalk every time you go into the drug store (or is that just me?) I was very curious to see if these products lived up to the hype and could be added to my list of drug store favorites

Look #1: Purple Reign

Purple Eyeshadow

{Glam Eyes Quad in Purple Reign, ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black, ScandalEyes Show Off Mascara}

I loved how the colors in this palette created a soft beauty look while making a statement at the same time.  While the packaging is super cute, it’s not practical.  Getting the highlighting shadow is easy (the big cross of color in the middle).  Getting to the other ones however are more difficult unless you have a thin brush (and then it takes longer to get the shadow on.) The liner glides on smooth and has great depth of color.  I could’ve used the same liner in purple for an even bigger effect (next time for sure!)  The mascara gives great volume sans clumping and using the tip of it made my lashes even longer.

Look #2:  Gossip Green

Green Eyeshadow

{ScandalEyes Eye Shadow Stick in Gossip Green, ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black, ScandalEyes Show Off Mascara}

Back on the bold eye color train with this look, using the Eye Shadow Stick in Gossip Green.  It glides on super smooth and the depth of color is great!  The black liner and mascara made my eyes pop even more.  Big thumbs up for this one!

Look #3:  Blackmail

Retro Glam

{ScandalEyes Eye Shadow Stick in Blackmail, ScandalEyes Show Off Mascara}

I wanted to see if the eyeshadow stick could double as an eyeliner and I was pleasantly surprised!  It gave me the thick, winged eyeliner look I was going for with just a swipe.  The mascara gave me the volume and a red lip was all I needed to complete my retro glam look.

You can probably tell I had a lot of fun test driving some of Rimmel’s products!  They did what they promised, gave me an assortment of looks I could create with just a few products, and delivered on the color I’m always looking for.

Have you tried Rimmel’s ScandalEyes collection?  What did you think?

Beauty Look of the Day: Aqua Flash Eyes with Avon

Avon makeup

It’s official.  I’m on the bright eyes train this summer.  After the last BLOTD, I was hooked and I’m looking for any and everything that screams color.  When Avon contacted me to review their Glimmerstick in Aqua Flash I was all in.  I’ve used their liners before in more subtle colors like silver and black so I already knew the product itself was solid.  Their easy to use, glide on smooth, and have great staying power.  The true test was the color and when they say flash, they really weren’t kidding!  It’s so bright and bold, it can be worn alone which is exactly what I did.  Some makeup artists may say that colored liner outside the entertainment industry is a no-no but I’m all about becoming a beauty rule breaker!  I also got the chance to review their SuperExtend Infinite Mascara and their Totally Kissable Lipstick.  The mascara gave the right amount of volume for a day look with no clumps.  The lipstick felt smooth and soft, though I wasn’t crazy about the color on me.  I thought it was too pale of a pink for my skin tone but I am interested in trying out any other colors they have that are right up my alley (Makeout Red and Berry Smooch look gorgeous!)

Hair

You may recognize the hairstyle  from last week’s outfit post.  I wanted to do an updo but didn’t want to go with the usual puff.  So I gave my hair a little side bang action and scooped up the rest into a high ponytail.  Easy peasy!

Are you going bold with eye color this summer?

Beauty Look of the Day: Maybelline Painted Me Purple

Makeup

After having this on my beauty wish list for like ever, I finally went out and bought Maybelline’s Color Tattoo 24hour cream gel eyeshadow.  I’m a sucker for high pigment at a drug store price and with the summer around the corner. Cream shadows are perfect for the hot weather down here and I’m ready for full on color! I really wanted Fierce and Tangy, an intense orange color that the darker skin model wore in their commercial.  I don’t have a real orange shadow but unfortunately they were all out.  So I went for Painted Purple, a brighter version of the color family that don’t have too much of in my beauty stash.  After putting this look together, I don’t know why I waited so long to buy it!  The color intensity is amaze and can practically carry a great eye makeup look all by itself!

Cream Eyeshadow

Face

  • Avon Cream to Powder Foundation* (yeah, I don’t expand my foundation horizons too much!)
  • CoverGirl concealer under the eyes
  • CoverGirl Press Powder for my shiny T-zone
  • Stila Convertible Color in Poppy on my cheeks

Eyes

  • Painted Purple was going to be the star of the show, so with a small, stiff brush I applied it all over my eyelids, using my finger to blend.  The shadow goes on really easy and you don’t need a lot to get that bold color you want.
  • For the crease and brow bone, I used the dark purple color from Wet-N-Wild’s Cool as a Cucumber palette.  I just dusted it on to keep the color soft and complimentary
  • Big color needs a crisp liner so I whipped out Wet N Wild’s Mega Liner in black, applying a think line on the upper lash lines to  make my eyes pop some more.
  • For Mascara I used NYC Big Bold Mascara.  It’s becoming a favorite of mine for big, bold lashes.

Hair:

In the last BLOTD, I told you guys I was getting a little bored with my hair.  So going through some old posts, I came across this hairstyle that I haven’t done in a while.  Not only is it easy to do, it held up for a few days which is a big plus for me!

  • On freshly washed and moisturized hair, part your hair in half.  For a little pizzaz, do a little side part in the front.
  • Start flat twisting your hair, twisting down taking little bits of hair at a time.
  • My hair in the back is softer and thicker in the back and with twists it unravels easier.  So I stopped twisting finished up with a braid.
  • That’s it!

What eyeshadow do you use for bold eye color?

Beauty Look of the Day: Earthy Tones

African American beauty

It’s so easy to fall into a beauty rut – using the same products, colors, and combinations over and over again.  They’re tried and true, you know what you’re gonna get, and you don’t have to think about it.  Staying true to my New Year’s Resolutions, I’m trying to amp things up in the style department.  After rocking my first colorblocking shirt, I wanted an equally new makeup look to go with it.  Bright, earthy  colors was what I wanted to use so I dug through my makeup stash and found some colors I hadn’t used in quite awhile!

Face:

Eyes:

  • To give my eye color a little lift, I applied NYX Eyeshadow Base in pearl.  It gives any eyeshadow you use a little more depth of color with a touch of shimmer.
  • Then I went ot the only orange shadow I had, also from NYX in Hot Orange.  I hardly use it because it didn’t give me the deep color I wanted (it looks  so promising in the packaging)  I thought that the base would amp it up but sadly it didn’t.  So I had to go over it with Smashbox’s Sherbert* for more highlighting action.
  • I stayed in the Smashbox palette *and applied Honey into the creases and bleneded out into the browbone.
  • For the outer creases I used dark Cocoa.
  • I finished up with Neutrogena’s mascara* in black.

Lips

Maybelline Lipstick in Copper Charm.  I had to be careful putting this on.  The color is really bright for my skin tone and if I put too much on I would look totally crazy!

Natural Hair

Hair

Yeah, I was totally lazy on this one. I dunno, I’m getting a little uninspired with my hair these days.  I’m trying to find a style that’s new, cute, and doesn’t require hours in front of the mirror.   Anyways,  I did my standard puff, spritzing my curls with Coconut Curling Milk* diluted with water and my Curling Souflee for shine and hold.  Ladies I’m all open for hair suggestions! :)

Beauty Look of the Day: Brown Sparkle

Makeup

Though I love experimenting with every color eye shadow under the sun, I do have my days where I just want a nice daytime look.  My Natural Eye Palette gets plenty of love from me so I wanted to use some of my other neutral shadows. I was heading out to a baby shower and my outfit was cute and casual, so I wanted my beauty look to be the same way.   I dug around my stash and found this sparkly brown shadow from Milani so I was excited to use it!  There’s always room for sparkle, even in the daytime!

Face:

The baby shower was outside so I didn’t want anything too heavy but would control the shine.  So I went with Avon’s Cream to Powder Foundation in Cocoa, finishing with my favorite press powder from Covergirl.

Eyes:
  1. As I mentioned before, I used Milani’s Runway Eyes in Bronze Doll as a highlight color on the lids.  It has great color and a subtle sparkle that I love.  Even you want even more depth of color, you can apply it with a wet brush.
  2. To help this gorgeous bronze color stand out, I swept Sue Devitt’s shadow in Burma, a matte chocolate shade in the creases and brow bone.
  3. I thought a black liner would be too much, so I went for Avon’s Everlasting liquid liner in dark brown.  The thin line along the upper lash line opened my eyes up even more.
  4. I finished up with Maybelline’s Colossal Volume Mascara in black.
Lips:

I wanted a natural looking gloss with a touch of shimmer, so I used Avon’s Everlasting Lip Gloss in Apple Cinnamon.

Natural Hair Updo

My little girl totally dictated this hair style.  She is at the stage where she wants to reach up and grab everything, including my hair so it gets put up a lot more often.  I didn’t want to do my standard puff, so I gave myself a little mini bump in the front.  I spritzed my hair with water and used Shea Moisture’s Curling Souffle for hold and shine. And oh, can I just say that the dreaded postpartum hair shedding has stopped! Halleluiah!   I would have a Chia pet after every hair wash. So gross!  My thinning edges are starting to grow in, thanks to applying a little caster oil after washing my hair.  Works wonders I tell you!
