Tourist for a Weekend

Fort Lauderdale Beach

Before I found out I was pregnant we had big plans for our 2nd year wedding anniversary.  As a matter of fact, I was just about to book our week long cruise the very day I found out we were having a baby. Needless to say there was a big change of plan but we still wanted to have fun and get away from it all, even if it was for a weekend.  So we loaded up the car and took a quick trip down south to Fort Lauderdale and play tourists for the weekend.

*Warning, this post is picture heavy*

Crazy downpours and thunderstorms put a damper on the beach plans but we improvised and still had a blast.  We hunkered down indoors at the Sawgrass Mall and the movies Saturday night to see Think Like A Man.  Let me tell you, it is the funniest movie we have ever seen in a very long time.

The weather was much nicer to us on Sunday so we took a drive down Fort Lauderdale beach to check out the big money mansions as the few brave swimmers on the beach.

We kept on driving all along the coast until we were home, cruising through the cities and towns reserved for even bigger mansions, yachts, and resorts.  When the sun made it’s appearance we got out and walked along the pier in Ocean Ridge, watching the water from the inter-coastal rush out into the pretty blue ocean.  Plenty of people were out there with their fishing poles and boats taking advantage of the scores of fish that were out there.  Even the seagulls were having fun!

With the craziness of having a baby and trying to keep up with day to day had be super stressed and this little getaway was just what I needed.  It made me appreciate living down here in a place where in just a short drive I can be away from everything and just disappear in the sea of tourists that visit all year round.

Fierce OOTD: Loving The Weather

The weather this weekend was absolutely amazing!  Mild temps, sunny days, and refreshing nights are the type of things that makes me appreciate the fact I live down here.  Yeah, it hardly gets cold enough to wear a killer coats, knee high boots, and snuggley warm scarves but that’s all right.   I like the weather down here, right now, just fine. :)

Plaid tunic

{Plaid Tunic:  Felina and Dandell; Pink Cami – New York and Co; Belt:  Rainbow; Jeans:  Old Navy; Flats: similar; Knitted Beanie: Charlotte Russe; Earrings: similar}

One of the things I love about the weekend (besides that it’s…well…the weekend!) is that I can get comfy in my jeans. I love jeans.  You can never have enough.

Purple Beanie

Plaid tunics like this one are another weekend wear staple.  Adding the belt cinches the waist to give the garment shape I need and the cami the pop of color I love in my outfits.  My weekends are also my hair washing days so the beanie was a given – no need to mess with my hair more than necessary – that’s what Monday’s are for ;).

Fort Lauderdale Beach Spa Trip: Bliss Spa at the W Fort Lauderdale

September has been all about spa and spa treatments and for my latest review, I went on down to Fort Lauderdale Beach to the W Fort Lauderdale, which sits right across the street from the shore.  Two weeks ago all of those hurricanes were chilling in the Atlantic so they waves weren’t as friendly as the normally are and the sudden whips of wind totally killed my hair!  But enough about that! On to the review!

On the third floor of these ultra modern hotel taking up more than 4,000 square feet is the Bliss Spa.  You may be very familiar with Bliss because not only do they have spas all over the country, they also sell their spa goodies online.  (I snatched up a few myself, which I will review later!)  I first walked into their Bliss Spa boutique to check in and then I was taken to the women’s locker room and lounge.  It wasn’t your typical locker room, taking its cue from the contemporary hotel it’s housed in.  It didn’t take long for me to get into those terry robes and slippers that I love so very much and sit in the lounge that had cool red and white geometric wall paper and clean line couches.  Square plates of cheese, crackers, and brownies were there for my snacking pleasure (and the brownies were good by the way!)

Soon my massage therapist came in and took me to my dimly lit, all white room for my Blissage 75.  Once I lay down on the heated table (which is great by the way!) It starts with wrapping my feet in a very hot wax foot-softening wrap.  It felt wonderful to me because my skin loves scorching hot water.  However, if you don’t have a high tolerance for heat, you may want to skip it.  During the massage it does solidify around your feet and feels kinda squishy in a good relaxing kind of way!  I was then massaged for 75 minutes from head, including my neck, to toe, with the wrap coming off and my masseuse massaging each and every toe!  It’s a deep tissue massage, which my body always craves for and afterwards, all I wanted to do was sleep! The oil he used didn’t leave me feeling all sticky, though my feet had to be wiped off (due to the wax) so I didn’t kill myself!

I really enjoyed it and I would definitely recommend this one to my ladies who need to get all of those body knots and tensions massaged out!
