Fierce OOTD: Striped Out and a Pop of Pink Pumps

Black Pants

Let me tell you the story behind these work pants. I bought them a few years ago during a crazy New York and Company sale and from the first time I tried them on I fell in love. However, over time they weren’t loving me back.  They got tighter and tighter, until I gained enough weight that I had to retire them to the back of the closet until I could wear them again. Fast forward to today and not only do they fit, they’re actually a little loose on me. This healthy lifestyle thing is really paying off!

Since I’m not working in an office anymore, I’m trying to find ways to breathe new life into my work wear without looking overdone.By pairing my work pants with more casual pants and fun accessories, I can come up with outfits that work outside of the office whether it’s lunch out with friends or a leisurely trip to the mall.

This shirt is another wardrobe flashback, living in the recesses of my dresser drawer until now. It fits well enough that I can even tuck it inside my pants. Man I feel confident enough to tuck any type of shirt in my pants for that matter!

You know I have to have my pop of color somewhere so I had to rock this outfit with my hot pink pumps. A nice little fashion surprise, don’t you think?

How to do re-purpose clothes you haven’t worn in awhile?

Fierce OOTD: A Slouchy Tee to Switch Things Up

T-shirt and JeansIt’s been a year since I left the regular working world and I still find it hard to break out of the boring, comfy clothes routine. Work out gear, sweatpants, old tees – that’s pretty much how I roll these days. I have to get better with that, switch things up from time to time, especially when I’m two seconds from falling asleep. Late nights and early mornings can make for an easy sweatpants day but doing that only makes you feel even more tired. The same way makeup can make you look more awake than you are, the right outfit can make you look more put together than you feel.

Enter my slouchy tee.

Blue Slouchy T-Shirt: DIY / White Ribbed Tank: Old Navy / Sweatheart Jeans: Old Navy / Black Sneakers: Reebok

I actually made this a few years back from a cheap t-shirt from Micheal’s and some iron on letters. I put it on when I want to feel a little sassy and channel my inner-80’s baby. To keep things PG, I layered it over a tank. These jeans are a style step up from the yoga pants but I just can’t give up my sneakers. (My little girl’s a runner!)

Blue Silk Scarf: Goodwill / Silver Drop Earrings: Beya / Horn Necklace: Forever 21

One of the things I love about accessories is that they can dress up an outfit in two seconds. Scarves are perfect for the days when I’m not in the mood to do anything with my hair (my curly puff was getting kinda of old!). Throw on some earrings and a long, pendant necklace and I actually look like I’m going somewhere other than my daughter’s Story Time session at the library.

 So tell me, how do you get out of your fashion rut?

Fierce OOTD: Fashionista

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done outfit posts, with good reason.  I’m a big advocate of creating content that you enjoy doing and at the time I wasn’t really enjoying it.  So I took a break from that to do other fashion posts (like this series!).  When I was contacted by Bank Fashion, a hot fashion store in the UK, to check out their clothes, I thought it would be a great opportunity to try these outfit posts again.  It would definitely determine if I just needed a break from them or needed to give them up entirely.  I’m happy to say I just needed a break because I can’t lie, I had a blast!  I’m sure the t-shirts I chose had a lot to do with it.

First, a little bit about the selection on Bank Fashion.  Their style of clothes is a fun mix of Forever 21 and H&M with a touch of Nasty Gal.  The price point is a little on the high end for trendy clothes but if you’re looking for something super fun to splurge on, you’re sure to find it.  They are a lot of brands to choose from. I’m not familiar with many of them but that’s really refreshing when you get tired of seeing the same clothes everywhere.  Also take note that the sizes are UK sizes so if you’re in the states you have to be very mindful of which one you pick, especially if you’re shopping for shoes.  Thank goodness there’s a conversion chart to help you out with that!  Speaking of sizes, there are plenty of regular sizes available but, unfortunately, not too many on the plus size side of things.  I was kinda disappointed with that.

Okay, now to outfits. This first shirt I chose to style was the Fashionista T-Shirt from Jacqueline De Yong.  That was no brainer, right?  It screams fashion blogger with fun, bold print and falling right in line with the black and white trend.  The t-shirt itself is made of a thin, light weight material so this is definitely a Spring/Summer shirt.  It’s fitted for an XL, the length perfect for me.

Dressed Up

When I saw this shirt my first thought was to wear it with my Forever 21 skirt, going all in with the season’s hottest trend.  To make things more interesting, I folded down the stretchy waist for more black action, dressing it all up with fashion jewelry and my sparkly flats.

Dressed Down

I channeled my fashion blogger self with the tried and true T-shirt and Blazer.  I really miss rocking my blazers, wishing for the temps to cool down some more so I can.  Yeah, it’s still in the 80’s here so rocking shorts in November is completely normal.  To liven things up I wore my leopard flats, shoes that I also don’t wear often enough!

Fierce OOTD: Rocking Two Trends At Once

Spring Trends

I have to admit, I’ve been a bit uninspired lately when it comes to my wardrobe.    I guess I’m still getting used to the drastic lifestyle change I’ve been going through.  I went from the 9 to 5 married lady office job to a stay-at-home freelancing mom.  All of my go-to outfits just don’t fit my life right now, my black trousers collecting some serious dust.  Anything that has to be dry cleaned is out of the question and I even had to cut back on my jewelry ware (the princess has way too much fun with them at my expense!)  Needless to say my personal style is going through some major changes and I’m still trying to figure in the fashion I love while being practical at the same time.

So in the meantime,  I’m left to jazzing up my casual wear. You can’t go wrong with layering, which puts my bright colored tanks to good use.  This hot pink one I scored at the Ecko Outlet was perfect, the racerback more appropriate for working out then for a day out.  I pulled this oversized shirt I hadn’t worn in awhile and when I threw it on I got the idea to tie it.  Don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before!  it does a great job hiding this mommy belly.  I also didn’t realize I was wearing two the latest trends at the same time – Neon and black and white.  Double score!

{Long Cross Necklace: Forever 21; Pink Cloth Earrings: Forever 21; Pink Bracelets: Old}

As for accessories, I also wanted to wear some oldies I hadn’t worn in awhile.  The cross necklace gave me the little edge this mom needed while the stretchy bracelets and earrings plaid off the pink for some more pops of color.  The shoes – yeah the heels stayed home on this one!  Besides, I wanted to show my Reeboks some love!

Have you ever had to do a major wardrobe overhaul due to a life change?  How did you deal with it?

Fierce OOTD: Showing off a Shoulder

One Shoulder Dress

I wore this little number for my wedding anniversary lunch with my husband and daughter last week.  I wanted to wear something fun and a little sexy especially since he sees me in nothing but sweats and t-shirts everyday!  I also didn’t want to get too dressy because we headed out to Buffalo Wild Wings, one of our favorite places to eat.  The last time we ate there was on our honeymoon in Orlando and we fell in love with their wings.  We are big wing afficionados and this place is high on the list.  They have a ton of flavors to choose from ranging from sweet and mild to burn your mouth off hot.  My goal in life is to try them all!

Print Dress

{One sleeved dress:  Flea Market; Black Flats: Target}

I bought this dress a few weeks ago and in the unlikeliest of places.  I was at the Swap Shop down in Ft. Lauderdale which is a huge flea market.  They sell everything from car parts and appliances to perfume and jewelry.  It’s one of those places where if you can’t find it there, they just don’t make it.  I was especially looking for some inexpensive sun dresses to wear.  The weather is getting hot and my little girl is getting more mobile so I wanted to get something cool and comfortable that I wouldn’t mind getting dirty.  After only finding one that met my criteria I was heading out and this dress caught my eye.  I like the fact it was off the shoulder but still had a little strap action going on.  The dress is in my favorite color and the print is super interesting.  Plus it was only $12!  Can’t go wrong with that!

Blue Dress

{Silver Hoop Earrings: Claire’s; Beaded Cuff: Old}

After wearing it to the lunch, I found that no matter how it dressed it down with the flats and jewelry it’s not a daytime dress.  The length is super decieving.  It’s fine as long as I’m standing but when sitting down or worse, bending over, I had to be super careful!  And toting the baby around, yeah not made for that.  It’s more of a date night dress, pairing it with my sparkly Maddens and some killer jewelry.  So note to self:  this goes in the Night Out section of my closet.

Have you gone flea market shopping lately?  What did you bring home?
