A Tartan Pinafore Dress 3 Different Ways [Sponsored]

I know it’s been a minute since I’ve done this feature. The holidays totally threw things off but it’s back in full effect because it’s one of my favorite blog posts to do. J

What better way to kick this off for 2014 than teaming up with ARK, a trendy clothing brand out of the United Kingdom. They supply fashionistas with brands like Superdry and Fred Perry offering both fashion forward and vintage clothing for women and men. Their clothing is fresh alternative to what’s available here in the states, with clothes made for the younger crowd but still have a big enough selection for women in my fabulous age group could easily pull off.

Today’s piece comes from ARK’s Hearts and Bows label. This Red Lilah Tartan Dress is from their Dungarees and Pinafores Collection. With an overall’s top and skater skirt comes in one of my favorite prints of the season. It’s also a great transition piece for the Spring, offering you plenty of opportunities to layer.

So let’s get to the styling, shall we?

Decree® Contrast Button-Front Shirt (JCPenney) / Forever 21 Heart Key & Lock Necklace / Jessica Simpson Jasmint Platform Pumps (Macy’s) / Merona® Clutch with Removable Crossbody Strap

Who says you have to wear clothes like you’re supposed to? Turn this dress into a tartan plaid skirt by layering a button down shirt over it. Choosing toned down (but not boring!) colors like black and white keeps the print the star of the show.

H&M Top in Slub Jersey / Fab Dreya Sneaker Wedge / Volcom Get The Picture Tote / FOREVER21 Square Hoops

You know you have some valuable threads in your closet when you can not only dress it up, but dress it down. Give this dress a stylish, ton-boy vibe with a stretch tee and an awesome pair of kicks.

Tall Boots

ASOS Crop Top / Aldo Gottwal Boots / Ark Gold Cool Necklace / Express Spiked Metal Cuff

Feeling young and sexy? Then a form fitted crop top is the way to go! Add some tall boots and rocked out accessories, you’re guaranteed to be fierce honey!

Tell me! How are you rocking Tartan this year?

A Faux Leather Skirt Styled 3 Ways

When I think of what kind of leather skirt I would wear, your typical mini one with a slit on the side does not come to mind.  If I was in my twenties maybe but your girl has passed that stage in life.  I need something slightly girly but with the same edge that only leather can give.  It needs to accommodate these curves and age appropriate (i.e no old lady vibes!). When I found this faux leather skater skirt from TopShop, it was exactly what I was looking for!  Available up to a size 16, the full skirt has the right amount of flirtatiousness without looking too young.  The length isn’t bad either, hitting an inch or so above the knee.  After playing with this skirt for this fashion series, it gets major versatility points too wearable both day and night.

One Cardigan Styled Three Ways

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have caught my weekly blogging tip that talked about spending time on writing the types of content you love and ditch those you don’t.  This feature is definitely becoming one of my loves!  I’m all about versatility when it comes to fashion and that doesn’t mean your closet has to be boring!  So I challenged myself this time and chose the Airport Greeting Cardigan from Modcloth.  Since my cardigan round up post last month, this one was still my favorite!  The asymmetrical front zipper under the cowl neck is everything, a modern spin on your comfy sweater.

How to Style a Grey Dress 3 Different Ways

The next item up in my Fashion 3 Ways Series is the Plus Size Infinity Scarf Sweater Dress from Dressbarn.  I remember this store back in the day selling clothing that was a bit old for me.  Now they have a great selection of dresses, especially for us curvy girls.  I chose this one because grey is going to be a big trend this Fall and I’m all over it!  It’s one of my favorite neutral colors to wear, especially to the office, whether it’s a great pair of pin stripe trousers or a cute sweater vest.  What also caught my eye with this dress was the cowl neck.  It just says Fall time, doesn’t it?

How to Style a Tank and Shorts 3 Ways

A tank top and shorts has been my staple summer uniform.  Besides being easy to wear, some days it’s just too flippin hot to wear anything else.  Now I’m all about versatility when it comes to clothing.  Until I win lotto, I have to be wary of my wallet when shopping for clothes getting the most bang for my money.  After doing a post on styling a maxi dress, I fell in love with the idea of showing you ladies how to make the most of your closet.  All it takes is the right shoes and accessories to make something like a regular tank top and shorts look new from one day to the next.

For today’s post I chose what I personally own.  Old Navy had a crazy online sale on tanks and I snatched up this multi-striped Perfect Tank Top.  It’s a little more polished than the other solid tanks I own and the colors work both for the summer and the transition into Fall.  The Jessica Simpson Forever Roll Up Shorts were also a steal I got at Burlington.  The fit is amazing with super comfortable stretch material and the perfect length.  It can be rolled up to mid thigh or rolled down if you like your shorts closer at the knee.
