Finally a Bronzer Your Oily Skin Will Love

Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer

The perfect bronzer for oily skin.

Bronzer and I have never had the best relationship. It was wither too shiny, too chalky or too shimmery for me to even bother with it. Besides, oily skin that goes on shine-alert by mid-day, I’m more concerned with controlling oil than getting a warm bronzed glow.

That is until I met the Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer from TooFaced ($30). Packed with anti-oxidant rich cocoa powder and rich pigments not only does my oily skin get the matte coverage it needs, my complexion gets a summer-worthy glow that’s okay to rock all year long. It evens my skin tone and plays well with my favorite foundation, making it easy to use it all over. It also works great as a contouring powder, which can instantly slim your face and accentuate your features. And oh, did I mention this powder smells like a warm cup of hot cocoa? Brilliant!

The trick to keeping that bronzed look all day long? The right brush. My regular powder brush just didn’t do the job but when I switched to the brand’s Retractable Kabuki Brush($34) I noticed a major difference (i.e no super shiny nose by lunchtime). The super soft bristles distribute the powder evenly and seamlessly, without making a mess on your skin (or in that cute compact).

Best Drugstore Makeup: The Lipstick Edition

As I head out the door everyday for work, my default makeup look is a neutral shadow, a few strokes of black liner and a fun lip color. It’s the easiest way to breathe life into your style and look extra fancy in under 5 minutes. So as such, my lip color collection is a little out of control. But I can’t help it, especially since there are so many drugstore brands that rival high end ones. Whether I need bold, long lasting color or a natural look that give my dry lips the moisture it needs, these lip colors have my covered.

CoverGirl LipPerfection LipColor

I raved so much about this lip color on here I’m totally not going to bore you guys again. To make a long story short, this brand is my holy grail of lipstick.

Rimmel London Moisture Renew

Their new collection of lip colors combines the intense color of a lipstick and the moisturizing properties of a balm. With 25 shades to choose from, there’s literally something for everyone.

NYC Ultra Moist Lipwear

When you want to try out a new lip color but don’t want to make the investment, NYC Ultra Moist Lipwear is the way to go. For a $1, you can have all the lip color fun you want with a formula that’s almost as good as the others.

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Shimmer

They wrapped up all of their natural and nourishing lip care goodness in cute little tube and gave it great color. Don’t let the shimmer fool you. These bad boys pack plenty of color.

Rimmel London Show Off Lip Lacquer

This lip color has answered my beauty prayers, bringing the high impact color I crave in handy and easy to apply gloss. The shine is amazing and the color literally lasts all day.

MUA Color Intense Lip Color

This UK beauty brand has come stateside, sold exclusively in CVS stores. Though it was a new company to me, it definitely left me impressed with rich pigments that last all day.

Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick

This lip color collection has the same rich pigmentation and hydrating abilities as the CoverGirl brand, with plenty of available shades – from barely there neutrals to electric pinks, reds and oranges.

Brighten Up Your Look With The CC+ Radiance Palette from It Cosmetics

IT Cosmetics

If you checked out any of the Spring runway shows last month, one of the biggest makeup trends was the no makeup trend (go figure!). It was all about flawless and radiant skin and even this makeup junkie can get down with that! To be honest, some mornings just aren’t made for a completely creative and colorful look. Sometimes I just need to look put together and look like I get 8 hours of sleep every day. And if that’s going to be a hot trend, there’s no reason to wait until the Spring of 2015 to start rocking it.

That’s why this was the perfect time to take the CC+ Radiance Palette from It Cosmetics for a test drive. It comes complete with everything you need to make your beautiful skin even more gorgeous – brightening powder, bronzer, and blush. All of them have color-correcting pigments to help even out skin tone for a very natural look.

After applying my primer and foundation, I applied a little bit brightening powder under my eyes and the tops of my cheeks. It brightens up my face just as well as my concealer without looking too white or ashy. It also gave my skin a matte finish that I always need in my life while minimizing the appearance of my pores. For those of you who want a fuller coverage, the powder can be used all over.

Next up was the bronzer, which is the same shade of brown as my pressed powder. I swept that all over my t-zone, paying attention to where the light hits my nose and chin, as that tends to be the shiniest parts of my face. It kept the matte-finish party going, giving my complexion a warm glow. If you’re one who loves contouring, you can sweep the bronzer under your cheekbones, along your jawline and under your chin for a cool, slimming effect.

If I was in the mood, I would apply the blush, a peachy pink type color to my cheeks. You can see hints of it on my skin but unfortunately didn’t show up as well as my cream ones do.

Overall, I was very impressed with this palette and how well it worked not only with my skin type but skin tone. When I’m in a rush and need to look like a person quickly, this is definitely my saving grace.

Get Wide-Awake Lashes With Avon’s Big and Daring Mascara

Some days call for big, bold lashes. A hot date, holiday parties, or a girl’s night may come to mind. For me, however, it’s those times when sleep doesn’t come easy.

The blog’s been quiet this for the past week because my darling daughter decides to have a late night  party – every night….for the past week. Now that my freelancing life has taken me out of my home office into an actual one, looking like a person all day everyday is a priority.

So how do I look like I’m wide awake and on the ball when I haven’t slept in a week?

Enter Avon’s Big and Daring Mascara.

The newest mascara from Avon promises 5X the explosive volume of regular mascara with a plumping complex and a curved wire brush. These multi-level bristles catch every single lash, coating them with a crème gel formula that brings them out for the world to see. The volume is amazing, my lashes getting great length and curl without a flake or a clump in sight. With one swipe my eyes are instantly brightened as if I had a full eight hours of sleep (I seriously don’t know what that looks like!). The best part? My lashes stayed that way – all day, so if I had evening plans that didn’t include fighting with a toddler, I wouldn’t have to do any kind of touch ups.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been this impressed with mascara that does exactly what it says it will do. Oh, and did I mention it’s only $9? The only thing that can beat that is a good nights sleep.

Have you tried Avon’s new mascara? Whatcha think?

Best Drugstore Makeup: The Eyeshadow Edition

There isn’t a shopping trip that goes by that I don’t stroll the makeup aisles of my favorite drugstores. You never know when I may come across a new brand or find a shade that I suddenly remember I don’t have. It drives my husband crazy for sure but in the end, I’ve learned which products work and over the years I definitely have my favorites.

Out of the types of makeup I shop for the most, eyeshadow is in the top two. When I’m looking for a new one to add to my arsenal, these are the brands I stick to and here’s why!

1. Maybelline® Eye Studio® Color Tattoo® 24HR Cream Gel Eyeshadow.

My favorite cream eyeshadow ever with a rich pigment and lasting power that’s almost unheard of with a drugstore brand.

2. Scandaleyes Shadow Stick

When I need bold eye color but running really low on time, I break out these shadow sticks. In the time it takes to color inside my crease lines, I have rich color that doesn’t streak, crease, or fade.

3. Rimmel London Glam’Eyes Quad Shadow

The packaging has gotten a makeover since the last time I bought this palette but it was totally worth it. It’s easier to get to the long lasting and totally gorgeous shades.

4. Wet-n-Wild Color Icon Trio

This brand can be very hit or miss but I found that the Color Icon Trio is the best eyeshadow they have. Pefect for the makeup newbie with placement etched right in the shadow along with great color.

5. Milani Runway Eyeshadow

I love these baked eyeshadow minis, with the ability to be used with water for even deeper color. I seriously need to get more of them in my life.

6. Maybelline® Eye Studio® Color Plush® Silk Eyeshadow Quad

Not a shocker that Maybelline is on here again. Love the pigment this quad delivers with two matte and two shimmer shades that can create a wide variety of looks.

7. CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 3-Kit Eyeshadow

When all else fails, you can never go wrong with CoverGirl. The collection of three complimentary shades give you the day look you want every time.
