One ‘N Only Brazilian Tech Keratin Kurl Texture Control Mousse has Totally Changed My Life

Curl Mousse

Hair confession: I was never a fan of hair mousse. When my hair was relaxed there was no need for it and now I thought it wouldn’t play nice with my hair. I was afraid it would dry my hair out, making it all sticky, crunchy, and gross.  Even when I was contacted by One N Only to try some of their hair products and then sent over the mousse along with complimentary shampoo and conditioner, I was still a bit skeptical. But, as your resident product junkie I must keep an open mind in the event that I find a new product to fall in love with. Well, it’s official:

Your girl is in love!

Keratin Kurl Texture Control Mousse is a lightweight styling foam that protects, manages, and holds curls. The Keratin strengthens and smoothes hair leaving curls nice and defined. It also promises to block out frizz causing humidity and deliver hair with of bounce and volume.

The perfect time to try this out was Easter Sunday.  I needed church ready hair and I needed it fast! So that morning I washed my hair with the Sulfate-Free Moisturizing  Shampoo and Moisturizing Conditioner. The shampoo worked great, giving me a nice moisturizing lather however the conditioner wasn’t as moisturizing as I wanted it to be, nor gave me the slip I needed to detangle.

Anyhow, after applying my leave in conditioner, styling cream, and oil it was time for the mousse. I gave the bottle a good shake and sprayed and egg sized amount in my hand to scrunch in one side of my hair. I put on the same amount on the other and gave my hair a quick shake.

After a few hours, it was time to go to church and my hair looked amazing!

Type 4 hair

What it did: My curls were crazy defined, even beyond Easter Sunday with great shine and bounce appeal.

What it didn’t do: Leave my hair sticky, weighed down, or dried out.

For the past two weeks, I’ve given up my regular gel for this mousse. This summer promises to be brutal down here!

You can find this mousse and their other products at your local Sally’s Beauty Supply store.

Giving My Curls the Definition It Needs with Organix Moroccan Curling Perfection Defining Cream

Defining Cream

With summer right around the corner, the temps and humidity around here is kicking into high gear. That means frizzy hair isn’t that far behind and I have to make sure I’m ready for it! I need hair products that can hold my curls together when I’m out and about enjoying the Florida sun. I won’t have time to re-wash and style my hair mid-week so my styling products need to do the job from wash day on. When I heard that one of my favorite brands Organix had a Curling Perfection Defining Cream ($7.99 at WalMart) as part of their Moroccan line, I just had to give it go!

Infused with Moroccan Argan Oil, this styling cream penetrates hair to smooth away frizz, tame flyaways, and give curls the definition they need. It also protects hair from heat styling and UV damage. After using my leave in conditioner on clean hair, I applied the defining cream on each section of hair. Because it’s on the thick side, a dime sized amount does the job (otherwise you’ll be rubbing it in all day!).

Natural Hair

Once my air dried I had awesome definition, my hair popping like crazy! Frizz was nowhere to be seen, even on the top of head where my curls are the loosest. Even after wash day, my curls maintained their shape without the crunchiness some gels can leave behind. It worked so well, I started using it on my daughter’s hair, keeping her curls intact no matter how wildly she sleeps. It didn’t weight my hair down either. I also loved the fact that it helps protect my hair from the sun while I’m out.

My only complaint was on the moisture front. When used by itself my hair dried out pretty fast. To keep that from happening, I had to use my usual hair moisturizer first and then the defining cream.

Beauty Blast: TRESemmé Flawless Curls Conditioner

Conditioner for natural hair

I was in CVS a few weeks ago taking advantage of a sale on one my favorite brands.  Because it was so popular I was only able to get shampoo.  So I kept strolling down the aisle and came to the TRESemmé section.  I’ve heard a lot of buzz about their conditioners on natural hair blogs but never had the chance to try them out.  I saw the big bottle of their Flawless Curls Conditioner for only $5 and snatched that up quick, praying it was just as awesome as everyone said it was.

A part of the Flawless Curls hair collection, this conditioner is formulated with vitamin B1 to help moisturize hair where it needs it the most, while helping to detangle and tame frizz. I loved the consistency of this conditioner, pleasantly surprised at how thick and creamy it was.  It gave me so much slip, my detangling session a breeze, even without oil rinsing.  My hair stays soft and moisturized well after rinsing it out, my curls looking fabulous even before my styling products.

I honestly haven’t been this impressed with a conditioner in really long time and the fact that I get so much conditioner for my money is another big plus.  I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I haven’t even touched the halfway mark (that’s music to a product junkie’s ears!).  Besides the conditioner, the collection also has a shampoo, Curl Locking Styling Spray, Extra Hold Mousse, and Lotion Crème.  I have my eye on the shampoo and lotion crème!

Beauty Blast: Spring Bands from Mixed Chicks

Mixed Chicks

While Mixed Chicks is widely known for its hair products that cater to curly girls like me, they sell more than just cleansing and styling products.  They have the tools that we need for our hair like paddle brushes and spring bands, which is what I’m talking about on today’s beauty blast.  These springy, plastic hair bands promise to keep your hair up and out of the way sans the tears and tangles that fabric ties can cause. You get five in a pack and are available in five fun colors (the light aqua is my favorite!)

At first glance they remind of those key chains I used to wear on my wrist back in the day.  I would’ve never thought to wear those in my hair but in this case, you would be crazy not to!  Tying up my hair was absolutely effortless!  You see, my hair in the back has very, very tight curls which are hard to stretch out to wear up in a ponytail.  Even when I tie up my hair at night I would have to make two ponytails instead of one.  Because the bands are so stretchy I’m able to tie up all of my hair without pulling the back too tight.  As a matter of fact, my hair didn’t feel tight at all, which is something my tender head can’t take much of. Just using the bands once around your hair is enough to get those curls out of the way. You also get some nice curly, poof action, especially if you gel down your edges or wear a pretty scarf (like I did here!) I didn’t realize just how often I wear my hair up – during my morning workouts, wash days, before bed, running errands, and, most recently, these past few days when I was too sick to do anything with my hair.  They were a real lifesaver, keeping my hair (and my appearance!) pulled together!

As for the tearing, there were some minor breakage but nothing super crazy and tangles were practically nonexistent.  I did notice that over time the bands do stretch out on you, especially if you wrap them around your hair more than once.   I also wouldn’t suggest using them on super wet hair because you will get some minor breakage when you take them down.

Have you tried any of the accessories from Mixed Chicks?

Beauty Blast: Curl Gel-les’c (Curl Jealousy) from Curls

Natural Hair Products

The PJ in me has been on a roll lately!  After keeping my obsession for hair products has been kept under control for awhile and found some great products that my curls love, I’m still itching to try new brands.  When the folks over at Curls, a hair care brand that caters to natural hair girls like me, sent over their hair gel, I couldn’t resist.  I’ve seen their products on my many trips down beauty aisles but hadn’t heard anything about them. I was also interested because I haven’t expanded my hair gel horizons, sticking to the only one that gives me the hold and shine my hair needs without flaking.

So what is Curl Gel-les’c  (pronounced Jealousy)?  It’s a cross between a gel and serum.  It promises to give curls the moisture and shine it needs while holding curls in place and banishing frizz.  You can use it on wet, freshly washed hair to keep your curls in place while they air dry or on 2nd (or 3rd!) day hair to get rid of frizz.  What I liked the most about it was how light it was, especially for the front of my hair.  My curls there are much looser, finer, and the first to frizz up.  So this gel was perfect for that section of my hair. I got the shine and hold I needs first thing in the morning without my hair feeling greasy and weighed down.  It worked well on the rest of my hair, though it’s much thicker so it needs a lot more gel.  It also smells great too, which is another plus!

Have you tried any products from Curls?  I know I’m curious to see what other good stuff they have. ;)
