The Moisturizing Must-Haves Your Hair Needs From Motions Hair Care

Motions hair ProductsWhen Motions said they were revamping their entire line, they really weren’t kidding! They improved on some of their classics they also added in a couple of new products, keeping the curly girl in mind. Their Color Care System was a hit and the styling foams became my new beauty BFF’s. What other hair goodness do they have going on?

Pre-Wash Detangling Butter

Full disclosure: I never detangle before shampooing. I’ve always been afraid that my fine hair just couldn’t take it and detangling with conditioner would be enough. This butter makes it no so scary, with the consistency of a regular conditioner that moistens hair enough to make detangling a lot easier and I didn’t get as much breakage as I thought I would, the shea butter, coconut and olive oils definitely helping with that. If your hair is in need of a serious detangling session, leave it on for up to 20 minutes before taking a comb and/or fingers to hair.

Lavish Conditioning Shampoo and Moisture Plus Conditioner

These two aren’t new but a throwback to my favorite cleansing products way before I went natural. It was the only shampoo and conditioner that didn’t dry my hair out back then and surely doesn’t do so now! Formulated with of shea butter, strands are moisturized while the Shampoo cleanses them, the silk and keratin proteins keeping them strong from the inside out. The Conditioner has super hydrating emolliants and plenty of slip to make detangling a breeze and leave hair soft and ready to go.

Moisturizing Cleanser and Smoothing Conditioner

If hair is feeling extra dry, this duo is the way to go. Part of the Natural Textures Collection, curls are gently cleansed with a good-for-you mix of coconut oil, shea butter and avocado oils that smooth and soften hair. Follow up with the Smoothing Conditioner (which makes for a great pre-poo by the way!) and you’re talking about a super conditioning combination.

The hair party doesn’t stop with these though. If you have medium to thick hair and twist-outs are your thing, grab the Versatile Texture Defining Cream. The gel-crème gives the moisture and hold you need to pull it off. The Active Moisture Leave-In Detangler is a nifty little spray to use after you shampoo whether hair needs to be detangled or not and the Stimulating Scalp Balm is great for soothing an itchy scalp.

Voluminous Curls are Just a Diffuser Away With The Infiniti Pro by Conair® 3Q™

Blow DryerWhen I started my natural hair journey over four years ago, my goal was to have big, gold curly hair. It’s what got me through the rough transition, the awkward length stage and even now in the “I’m-getting-kinda-bored stage”. I’ve been having a love/hate relationship with my hair lately – the shrinkage in particular. Letting it air dry takes days of stretching before I get the big hair that I want and taking a blow dryer to it spells frizz central, no matter what I do. Even blowing it out caused more flyaways that made the hour it took to flat iron it a complete waste of time. I love my curls but want to show off the length i.e all of my hard hair-work over the years with the same definition that air drying gives me. Can using a high quality blow drier with a diffuser attachment deliver the hair I want?

Taking The Infiniti Pro by Conair® 3Q™ for a test drive was the perfect opportunity to find out!

Hitting store shelves this past September, it boasts a brushless motor technology that reduces drying time by up to 70% (when compared to the T3 Dryer Model 83808). It also does so much more quietly than the previous 3Q dryer. It comes with a concentrated nozzle perfect for blowouts and a diffuser attachment made for these curls. It also has two heat settings, a cool shot feature, as well as three different speeds.

After washing my hair, deep conditioning it and adding my styling products, I set the Conair 3Q to low heat on a high speed. I wanted to dry my curls fast without frying them to death. Flipping my hair over, I let my curls fall into the diffuser cup and pressed it gently against head. I let the lift and dry my curls for about a minute before moving onto the next section. It took about 20 minutes to get my hair 90% dry.

The results?

Diffusing Natural Hair

I had second day volume on wash day which is completely unheard of for me. Even better, there was minimal frizz and plenty of curl definition to go around. I had a cute curly fro in no time! My hair was super soft too. As the week went on, my hair just got bigger and better! I loved the fact that it cut my drying time by a whole day without killing my strands. Finally, the answer to my hair boredom!

You can find The Infiniti Pro by Conair® 3Q™ in more than 15,000 locations, including Target, Walgreens, Ulta, Walmart, Rite Aid, CVC and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Best Drugstore Beauty: The Natural Hair Edition

Natural Hair

When it comes to hair, the drug store is the holy grail of products. I learned over the years that expensive doesn’t always equal best, no matter what type of hair you have. Some of the best conditioners and styling products I ever used fall under the $10 mark.

Organix Argan Oil and Shea Butter Shampoo

This sulfate and paraben free line of hair products has ton of products that deliver great looking curls. The Argan Oil and Shea Butter Shampoo is the most moisturizing of them all, leaving hair crazy soft.

TRESemme Flawless Curls Conditioner

Hands down this is one of the best conditioners for my curls as well as the best bang for my buck. Infused with Vitamin B1 to gently condition hair while taming frizz it has the right amount of slip to make detangling a breeze. It also leaves your curls crazy soft, whether you use it before or after shampooing.

EcoStyler Olive Oil Gel

My edges would be looking crazy if it wasn’t for this hair gel. Made with 100% pure olive oil, this gel gives superior hold without flaking or drying your hair out.

Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie

The priciest product out of the bunch, it’s worth the slight splurge if your hair needs a styling product with some serious hydrating power. From twists to wash and goes, you get curly hair perfection each and every time.

Cream of Nature Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment

If you want to see results right away, this conditioner from Cream of Nature is the way to go. After the first use my hair was so much softer and curls much more defined I almost didn’t believe it (so I had to use it again…and again!)

Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle

No time to sit under a dryer for 30 minutes to deep condition, Aussie has you covered with the 3 minute miracle. By the time it takes you to apply and detangle, you’re ready to rinse while still getting the strengthening and moisturizing benefits of a longer conditioning session.

Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Oil

When dry scalp is a serious problem, massaging it with a little bit of tea tree oil does the trick. Drugstores like Walgreens carry an affordable size bottle of it (just have to look way down on the shelf).

Be sure to check out the eyeshadow and lipstick drugstore editions!

LUXHAIR™ NOW™ by Sherri Shepherd Has Changed My Hair Game Forever

Black HairBack when I used to relax my hair when I was ready to add a little length to my mane my go-to’s were drawstring ponytails or braids. Never got a weave (couldn’t afford it!) and never got up the nerve to wear a wig. My grandmother used to back in the day and she looked fantastic in it. My fear though was that it wouldn’t look natural or (gasp!) it would randomly fall off and totally embarrass me. Going back to my natural hair¸ I put all those ponytails away and just didn’t look back, focusing on getting my hair back to health.

My curls and I are in a good place 4 years later and I can finally have some fun! You’re girl has definitely been feeling adventurous lately so when the folks at LUXHAIR reached out to me to try out Sherri Shephard’s new line of lacefront wigs I couldn’t resist! Her collection has everything from clip in bangs to luscious layers in a wide variety of shades, reflective of the daytime talk show stars dynamic personality. The synthetic hair itself can stand up to heat and humidity with the movement of real hair that makes styling effortless. The lace front section lends itself to the appearance of a natural hair line.

I chose a style that I never rocked before, with red highlights that I’ve been dying to have – the Casual Curl with burgundy highlights. The hair is soft with big ringlets and chunky highlights that weren’t overwhelming. It has shoulder length layers in the front with a long, curly piece in the back. It wasn’t as curly as the picture but that was alright. Once I carefully cut the extra lace front to the hairline, I was ready to put it on. Once I did.

OMG. It was love at first sight!

Black Curly Hair

It has a basic cap that fit nicely once I braided my hair down, not too tight but snug it enough that it didn’t feel like it was going to fall off. The curls fell beautifully around my face with the ability to the part it the side like I do when I wear my hair straight.

I was also surprised at how light it felt, despite all that hair. It moved like real hair too, able to do a couple of hair flips in the mirror (I was seriously feelin’ myself. I’m not going to lie.)

Black Hairstyles

The only drawback was I wish the lacefront was a darker color. I had to cut quite a bit and the little bit that I couldn’t get was still visible if you looked really close. That was another reason why I parted it to the side.

It was amazing though how one wig changed up my entire look. There was no need to spend hours strengthening my own hair or shelling out major money at a salon. For an investment of about $89, you can completely switch up your entire look in under five minutes without damaging the hair you work so hard to keep healthy.

Do you wear wigs? How often?

Bringing My Curls Back To Life with One N Only’s Argan Oil Hydrating Mask

Deep Conditioning MaskI was seriously late to the deep conditioning party and honestly I didn’t know what I was thinking! Every since I started incorporating it into my natural hair routine, I’ve noticed a huge difference. My hair stays so moisturized that I don’t even need to apply styling products throughout the week. My curls are healthier and I can count more good hair days than bad. A great deep conditioner is crucial to say the least, setting the beauty tone for the rest of my hair week. I’ve used some great ones that leave my hair so soft it should be a crime and others that did a so-so job?

So where does One N Only’s Argan Oil Hydrating Mask fit in the scheme of things?

Two words: Ah-mazing!

Just like their styling mousse, I was floored by how well this hair mask performed, especially since it doesn’t require any type of heat. Formulated with Moroccan Argan Oil, this rich conditioning treatment restores hair to its healthy and moisturized glory, improving elasticity and protecting it from free radicals. All it takes is five to seven minutes and a quick rinse and you can see an immediate difference. My hair is crazy soft when I step out of the shower and seriously stays that way until wash day the following week. I don’t need to apply any moisturizing products whatsoever (just a little gel for these edges cuz girl…that fuzz is not cute!). When does come time to wash my hair again, my strands are much easier to detangle giving great slip and shedding is kept to a minimum. Even the little fairy knots that plagued my beauty life for the last few weeks were nowhere to be seen.

I can go on but honestly I would just be repeating myself. This hair mask is amazing and perfect for a busy girl like me who doesn’t always have time for a major deep conditioning session.
