Fierce Fragrance: Calvin Klein Beauty

As promised from my Tuesday Top Five of my favorite fragrances, here is the official review of Calvin Klein Beauty.  If you remember from way back when, I first told you about this when I announced that Diane Kruger was going to the face of this fragrance.  Now CK Beauty has made its grand entrance this Fall.

Taking its inspiration from a lily, Calvin Klein aims to embody a woman’s strength, confidence, and inner-beauty in its fragrance.  Housed in this super cool and futuristic glass bottle, this eau de parfum has notes of Ambrette Seeds, Jasmine, and Cedarwood.  This scent is very sophisticated, on the level of Balenciaga Paris.  I can definitely see a strong and confident women wearing this, just strong enough to last all day with a slight sweet yet equally rich fragrance.   Though I’m not sure if the youngsters would be thrilled about it, it would definitely work for an almost thirty something like me as well my mom and grandmother (something to think about with the holiday’s so close!) It also goes great with that power suit or classic LBD.  Either way this fragrance falls into my “office” beauty routine!

You can find Calvin Klein Beauty on their website or at your Macy’s perfume counter!

Fierce Fragrance: Outspoken by Fergie

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve reviewed a perfume on here, though I did list my favorites so far for the Tuesday Top Five.   So, without further a due, the fragrance for today’s review is Outspoken by Fergie.

The newest celebrity to join Avon in creating their own signature fragrance, Outspoken was created for the bold, uninhibited woman.    With this smell good, sold exclusively through Avon, Fergie’s first fragrance is a mixture of her bold expression and ultra femininity.

“I’m so excited to partner with Avon to develop my first-ever fragrance. I’m always seeking out new ways to express myself, and fragrance is the perfect opportunity to share my originality and confidence with my fans, and the Avon customer. I couldn’t be happier to be working with a brand with such a strong reputation for supporting women.” — Fergie

Here’s a breakdown of the notes:

Top Notes: Star Fruit, Iced Berry, Wild Saffron

Heart Notes: Tuberose Absolute, Midnight Jasmine, Passion Flower

Base notes: Racy Black Leather, Raw Ebony Wood, Smokey Vetiver

The bold purple bottle with the clear crystal like top definitely expresses that mixture of bravado and girly-ness.  I can also say the same for the perfume itself.  It smells bold at first but not overpowering, smelling softer and lighter as the day goes on.  It’s doesn’t smell too sweet or too musky, striking the right balance between a strong perfume and a light, dainty one. I think it’s quite nice, perfect for work or a day out with the girls!

Fierce Fragrance: Daisy Pop Art and Lola Velvet from Marc Jacobs

Seems like Mr. Marc Jacobs is on a role when it comes to fragrances!  After launching Bang, a fragrance for men this summer, he is now giving a new twist to the old favorites for the Fall!  Daisy Pop art and Lola Velvet are two new smell goods to help get us ladies into the autumn spirit!  I had the opportunity to get a whiff of both fragrances and here are the verdicts!

Daisy Pop Art (100 ML e 3.4 fl oz, $88)

Housed in a remixed version of the original bottle, which is a rich red with black and gold daisies), is a richer  smelling version of the Daisy original, with notes of wild strawberry, a blend of gardenia and jasmine, birch, and cedarwood.  Unlike my experience with the original, I was able to appreciate this fragrance a lot more.  It’s really light and fresh and perfect for the girl who likes dainty perfumes.  I like wearing it work, for the scent isn’t overbearing and I still feel like I have something on! The bottle is also cool and funky, which makes it great to display on my nightstand!

Lola Velvet  (50 ML e 1.7 fl oz, $68)
Unlike the first one, Lola Velvet maintains its original fragrance with its signature note of fuchsia peony.  Its limited edition bottle of violet frosted glass and a cap of velvety flower petals is only the beginning of the fun I have with this one.  Out of the two, Lola Velvet was my clear favorite, its fragrance just as playful and artsy as its bottle design!  On the days I really want to be noticed, I put this on, because the fuchsia peony is signature and doesn’t smell like anything else I’ve tried!  This fragrance definitely packs a punch so be sure to use sparingly!
To get your hands on these two smell goods, visit your local Bloomingdales or Marc Jacobs specialty stores!

Beauty Blast: Bang by Marc Jacobs

I know it’s been a hot minute since I reviewed a men’s cologne since PD2 and Givenchy’s Play.  It has also been awhile since Marc Jacobs has come out with a men’s fragrance.  So we’re going to kick this off with a Bang shall we!  (Yes, the pun was soo intended! LOL)

This new smell good by Marc Jacobs has starting notes of black, pink, and white peppercorns followed by masculine woods and other unique scents including white moss and patchouli.  But before you even get to all of this, the bottle itself is iintriguing!  As you can see, it looks like a plain metallic and black bottle was “banged” to death to give you an odd shaped yet self standing bottle.  The ruggedness yet sleekness of the cologne’s bottle lends itself to the first word that comes to mind when I smelled it:

I’m talking about a macho kind of fragrance which smells unlike the other smooth and friendly colognes my husband usually wears.  I didn’t realize how much I liked it until I was seeing my husband off to work one evening.  I gave him a hug and when I smelled it on him, my first thought was “Damn, he smells sexy!” (and I don’t just say that because he’s my hubby! LOL).  I liked the fact that it was different and could tell right away what he was wearing.  When a cologne has a signature fragrance like that, it can’t help but stand out!

Oh yeah, my husband likes it too!

You can scoop this up at your local Bloomingdales or Marc Jacob’s boutique! (1.7 oz., $55 and 3.4 oz., $75)

Fierce Fragrance: Zoe Saldana for Eternal Magic

Hope you ladies had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend and not having a hard a time as me getting back into the groove of things!  Something that is definitely sure to lift your spirits from the back-to-work blues is an awesome fragrance – and I got one for you!

The latest smell good up for a Fierce review is Eternal Magic from Avon that is backed by none other than Zoe Saldana.   “I’m very proud to be working with Avon and to be the face of Eternal Magic. It means so much to me to be associated with a company that shares my values and believes in empowering women,” Saldana says.  (I totally loved her in Avatar and Star Trek by the way!)

Riding on the theme of a mystical fantasy, the fragrance comes in an oddly shaped oval bottle with a cool and unconventional clear cap.  This purple fragrance has notes of Sheer Violet, Princess Monaco Rose, and Creamy Vanilla Warmth.  Does it smell as good as it sounds?

Absolutely!  Its scent is a mixture of floral and woodsy (an after seeing Avatar this weekend, I can’t help but associate the fragrance with one of those funky looking flowers from the movie!).  Eternal Magic manages to smell sweet and fresh at the same time, making it appropriate for women of any age to wear (I leave those fruity scents for the young ones!)  As always, I get my husband’s opinion and he is  a fan!  With a price that is very wallet friendly ($22.50 for a 50ml Eau de Parfum) and a scent that lasting power, Eternal Magic a fragrance worth adding to your collection!
