Thank goodness for January 1st! It’s the opportunity for all of us to reflect and start our lives over again renewed and full of energy. Whether the New Year serves as a reset button, a chance to catch up, or the time to keep pushing, we’re here and like everyone else, I’m taking stock of 2012. It was definitely a mind blowing year for me. I kicked off the year unexpectedly finding out I was pregnant and watched myself balloon with new life. I had a newfound appreciation for my body and experienced every emotion from sheer joy to pure panic, sometimes at the same time. Towards the end of 2012 I had my daughter and when she came, it has been a whirlwind, a straight tornado. The pressures of being solely responsible for another human being, settling in to a new and exciting role as a mom, and dealing with health problems that were enough to scare the mess out of me were out of this world! Now the dust is settling and the New Year is here. Normally I would have a dozen of resolutions to tell you about, but this year I only have one. It encompasses everything I want to do and tried to set out to do before.
My resolution this year is to make it happen.
Before today, I made the decision not to return to work and stay home with my daughter. Not only would it give me the opportunity to raise her and care for her full time, it removed every excuse I had not to pursue my writing career. These past 3 years I spent working on this blog, freelancing here and there, and working on my book was great preparation. But now the safety net is gone and I’m going in, all guns blazing.
There are no excuses not to make it happen.
The opportunity to finally make my side gig my main gig is here. It’s super exciting and super scary all at the same time but there’s no turning back now.
So what’s going to be different?
Taking care of a baby teaches you the art of prioritizing. You truly figure out which things are most important and which things can take a back seat, without feeling super guilty about it. What does that mean for this blog? Don’t worry, it’s not going anywhere! What will change is how I approach it when it comes to running it. Up until now I was stressed about the frequency of posting and trying to do everything. Now, I’m focusing on quality instead of quantity, really thinking about what I’m going to post and what loves of mine I’m going to focus on. So for now, I will post twice a week, with more thoughtful and fresh content. Though I may squeeze in an extra post if warranted, I’m not going to spazz out if I don’t. I’m going to take the time out to really utilize the social media channels that I enjoy and prove the most useful for my blog. It also leaves me time to finish up my long overdue novel and concentrate on my freelance writing business.
2013 is definitely going to be my year. I have no choice now. It has to be!
What are your resolutions this year? What are your ambitious goals for 2013?
