Before I started blogging I was practically clueless when it came for caring for my skin. I would just splash my face with cold water and walk out the door. I didn’t really pay attention to what body washes or lotions I used either (just went with whatever was cheap!). One of the awesome things that blogging has done is expose me to all types of products. At first I wanted to try any and everything, but I had to really see what worked for me (and what didn’t!) and that made me step back and learn about my skin and what it needs.
This article gives a great break down on skin types as well as how to determine what type of skin you have.
Though I can be a bit of a product junkie when it comes to my hair and makeup products, I keep my skincare goodies pretty simple. If I find a brand I like, I usually stick to it.
So what’s in my skin care arsenal?
Facial Cleanser: Clean and Clear Deep Action Cream Cleanser
I was using this one from the same brand religiously before I was pregnant, which worked with my combination skin. However, with this pregnancy my skin went into overdrive, becoming more oily and breaking out a lot more often. So I needed something a little stronger so I can get a handle on all the skin craziness. Using this once a day, it gets into my pores and not only leaves a clean face behind, but a refreshing, tingling sensation as well!
As my face become oilier, my skin became much drier and my regular rotation of body washes weren’t cutting it. So I went with the brand that has always been my favorite, looking for a formulation that would give my skin the extra hydration it needed. Like the others I’ve tried from them, this one is amazing with a rich and creamy formula that leaves my skin soft and smooth after every shower.
One of the many presents this pregnancy has given me is chest and back acne, the likes of which I had never experienced in life. It was crazy! So I was looking for a solution that didn’t involve using common acne fighting chemicals (a preggo no no) and my best friend came to the rescue. She had been using Dial Soap for her oily skin for years and for me, it was just the thing to help clear up my body acne. After washing with my body wash, I followed up with Dial and I’m happy to say it has cleared up quite nicely!
I’ve been using this moisturizer ever since I reviewed it a few weeks ago, especially on my makeup free days. Once my face is cleansed, I put some of this on and walk out the door.
When I do feel like glamming it up, I go with this lighter moisturizer specially formulated for my skin type. It moisturizes the dry parts of my skin while keeping my T-zone under control without clogging my pores or irritating my skin. Once I run out of my Murad, I’ll probably get the SPF version of this one (it is a little pricey!).
Body Moisturizer: Cocoa Butter Lotion from Walgreens
Yeah, I know, Cocoa butter really doesn’t prevent stretch marks but you can’t blame a girl for trying! Besides, this lotion helps keep my skin soft and hydrated throughout the day, especially around my belly and hips. As baby gets bigger, my skin begins to stretch, making it really, really itchy (no bueno!). So I make sure I to use this lotion, every single day. I used to use the Cocoa Butter Lotion from Palmers, but I wasn’t crazy about the scent and I found it too thick, making it a pain to get out of the bottle sometimes.
Other Skin Care Products:
Baby Powder: OMG, this summer wasn’t playing this year! Just walking from my house to my car was enough to make me sweat. So your girl went old school with good old baby powder. After my shower I applied this to wherever I don’t like to sweat and it works wonders! Right now, I just use the generic brand from Walgreens (no need to spend a lot on this)
Vaseline: My lips have been getting super dry and my regular lip balms just don’t do the job like they used to. So in the evening, I apply a little vaseline and in the morning my lips are kissably soft!
Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towlettes:Love, love, love these wipes! I’ve tried to use generic ones and even at a time, unscented baby wipes but I always come back to these. Not only do they remove all of my makeup, including liner and mascara, it does so with just one wipe. My skin also feels really soft and moisturized that I don’t need to put on anything else before bed.
