FBFF: Let’s Get Technical

Canon Rebel DSLR

Yes I know!  It’s been awhile since I’ve done Friend Friday!  I really miss doing it and I’m thinking with the change to once a month, it will definitely be easier for me to keep up!

This week, we’re talking about technology and the tools we use to blog.  My experience as a blogger has taught me that everything is not for everyone and at the end of the day you have to use those tools and programs that will enhance your blog, not because it’s the latest thing to do.  So with that in mind, onto the questions!

What are the tools you use to blog?

Hardware:

  • Gateway Laptop
  • Canon Rebel T3 camera
  • Full size Tri-pod
  • Kodak camera for video
  • Cell Phone – Samsung Vibrant (which I really need to upgrade!)
  • Kindle Fire for reading books on blogging and writing (like this one)

Software and Online Programs:

  • WordPress
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Powerpoint, Outlook
  • Picnik for photo editing (and it’s going away soon!  What am I going to do?? :( )
  • Google Mail for blog email
  • Google Reader

Social Media

What technology item is on your wish-list?

Now that I have the camera I’ve wanted ever since I started blogging, next on my wishlist is a toss up between a new lens or an Ipad so I can blog and work more on the go.  The new lens may win only because my husband wants one too! LOL

Through the barrage of posts, tweets, pics, poses, messages, etc… how do you avoid becoming a slave to the constant infiltration of information?

I simply turn everything off!  That is the only way I can do it and save my sanity.  These past two weeks my social media and blogging activities I usually do had to be put on the back burner due to my Real Life taking center stage and it’s times like that when it feels pretty good to just tune out, leave the phone in a far room and my laptop tucked away in my office. It put things into perspective and reminds me that my family are more important than staying up to date with the latest everything!

What blogging tools do you use?

When I heard that picnik was going away, I was sort of glad I had switched over. I started using Cyberlink PhotoDirector from a freebie I received off of one of those free sample websites (fatwallet.com, etc). It’s AWESOME, though I am thinking about taking the jump into a beginners photo shop.

I think Google will have something to replace Picnik but don’t quote me on that. Someone did a post on a blog I follow about something that’s nice as Picnik so I have to find that and check it out.

On my Technology wish list is just the items i need to make nicer clearer videos. I need to get those dividers that everyone uses along with some great lights! I just don’t know where to get it all

I think I heard the something along those lines too. Girl when you master that video equipment, you will definitely need to tutor me!

I don’t know what I’m going to do without Picnik either :(

I think I did the homework assignment wrong because everyone put their phones and social media. I don’t use my phone to blog and I tweet promoting my blog but how Katy worded the question sounded like “tool FOR” blogging but oh welp haha
