Friend Friday: Fall Fashion for 2010

Newport News

Friday couldn’t come fast enough!  What a great way to kick it off than with a lighter topic and me and my Friend Friday friends all enjoy – Fashion!

Fall is knocking on our doors and we’re all gearing up our closets to bring it in as fashionably as we can!  Even though I can’t wear half of the stuff, the Fall is still a time for me to get creative and get out of the tank and flip flops routine!

What new fashion trend are you looking forward to sporting this fall?

Believe or not, the animal print.  I’ve been slowly venturing out of my fashion comfort zone and rocking the animal print would be a BIG step for me in that regard!  I’ve seen some bloggers rocking them already in really cool and unique ways and I can’t wait to see how it can fit in my wardrobe!

Which item in your closet is most likely to be your go-to transition piece?

It would have to be my burgundy cover up cardigan from Charlotte Russe (that I’m wearing right now by the way!).  I actually bought it back in May and pretty much rocked it all summer but it will definitely work for Fall in South Florida.  Because it doesn’t get any colder than 75 degrees this cardigan is great to get that fall feeling without sweating to death while still being able to get use out of my tanks, tees, and cami’s by using it to layer.

What item from last year are you looking forward to reinventing this fall?

Hmmm…my choices are so limited because (once again) I live in South Florida so it would have to be the cardigans and coverups! Having fun with different colors, layering, short ones, and long ones as well as what accessories look good with them.  Cardigans and cover ups are also office friendly so I can have fashion fun and still be within the office fashion code.

What is your favorite part about this time of the year?

The switch up in colors.  Down here you can get away with wearing bright, summery colors all year round but I don’t want to! Though I can’t wear the sweaters and leather jackets, at least I can get creative with putting together summer friendly outfits in fall colors.

Will you be attending any fashion events this fall?

Unfortunately no and I’m so bummed!  I tried making it to NY for Fashion Week but after coming off of having my wedding this past Spring, my wallet was just not feeling it!  Hopefully I can get there next year!

  1. MJ,
I am totally feeling you on the animal print for this fall, I Have my eye on a great pair of wedges from Nine West that has a animal print wedge heel can’t wait to get my hand on them.

  2. cardis! yes, please. i have a few i wear in the summertime too.

gurlie, i grew up in Houston, so all that humidity and winters no colder than 60 i can totally relate to. if ya really want, maybe the midwest could share and send over some below zero temps and maybe even some snow over to ya. :o) at least for a day so you can break out them boots.

  3. With animal print I think the key is start small. Find something that you love but is still subtle. (maybe a scarf) Then from there try to mix and match it in new ways. Then go for something more exciting or bold. That is what I did and last year I ended up wearing a leopard print dress and LOVING it. – Katy

  4. Good point about fall colors vs. summer ones. That’s definitely one big way we can participate down here.

I’m not much of a neon girl, so I don’t even wear bright colors much in the summer, but I will continue to wear my new hot pink bolero because A) I haven’t worn it enough yet and B) any pink is eternal!!!

I started going to Miami Fashion Week last winter, after I heard of it. I’ll be going again, but it’s in March, not the fall.

It may not get cold enough to snow here, but the heat – no the humitidy – gets so oppressive. I don’t like going out in the summer days, but come August, it’s more humid, and therefore feels much hotter, AT NIGHT.

    Nightmare or no?

    • And it doesn’t it seem like the humidity is 10% worse on Miami Beach? I don’t know why but some days I go down there and I’m dying!

Yeah, Miami’s fashion week is in March and I’ve never been. How is it??

I love pink and I am not mad for you wanting to still rock it! I wore a lot of light, bright colors, with the only bold colors being coral and turquoise. I’ll probably get into some neutrals along with some purples for a change in pace!

Hopefully Mother Nature will sneak in a few 60 degree days like she did last year! :)

  5. Funny – I find I have a love/hate relationship with London because I find it freezing cold ALL year round (Summer? What summer??) and I would love to be able to just wear a cardigan instead of a ton of clothing. And it does get oppressive after eight months in dark winter colours. I’d love to be able to wear bright summery colours for longer. The grass is always greener!
I’m with you on the animal print!

    • LOL! Believe or not though, the constant hot weather gets soo boring! This time of year I WISH I could sport a pair of boots, a fur vest, something! however I would melt in less than two seconds! LOL
