As a lady living on a budget, renting movies, renting an apartment, or even renting a handbag (though I have yet to do that!) proves to be very economical and wallet friendly. But when a girlfriend of mine put me on to this kind of rental a few weeks ago, I was like…Really??
Wish you could wear those gazillion dollar dresses that grace the runways Well, a company called Rent the Runway, aims to make this a reality for us ladies who don’t aren’t those handful of people who can afford to buy it. The concept is just like a fashion version of Netflix – you pick your dress in the size and color you want, tell them where you want it delivered, and in a few days it’s on your doorstep, clean and ready for you to wear. It’s yours for either 4 days or 8 days, depending on the kind of rental you get and you just ship it back in a prepaid envelope. If you’re a New Yorker, you can even get same day courier service. Not sure of the size? These people will send you the same outfit in a different size, just in case the one you picked doesn’t fit.
The concept itself is awesome and definitely makes sense during a time where being frugal is fashionably acceptable. For me though, I’m kind of on the fence. The thought of wearing a dress that my budget couldn’t is so tempting but then I think to myself, “Where in the world am I going to wear a $2,000 dress??” It will not be to the club or bar where someone is waiting to spill a drink on it and I have yet to get a Red Carpet event invite. I am someone who would be super paranoid of getting an expensive dress messed up! I also need to see what kind of dresses are offered (the runway is notorious for not being curvy girl friendly) as well as rental prices before making my final decision. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get full access to the site and right now I’m on the waiting list. I promise to keep you ladies posted!
What do you think ladies? Is this a fashionista’s dream come true or something you just can’t see yourself doing?
For my Fashionistas!
